Just because you're a kid doesn't mean you can't protect ground water! To protect this natural resource, which makes up more than 90 percent of the available fresh water in the United States and the world:
First, educate your parents. Tell them about these ways to protect ground water from the National Ground Water Association.
· Hazardous substances such as household chemicals, paint/paint thinner, and waste oil should not be poured down the drain, thrown in the trash, or dumped on the ground.
· Find out where you can dispose of hazardous wastes properly by contacting your local or regional solid waste authority.
· Don't use more than the amount recommended on the label for fertilizers, weed killers, or pesticides.
· Store hazardous materials in a safe, secure place in sealed containers.
